The scripture admonishes us to take heed (that is "retain, pay attention to") to the doctrine; to continue in it. This admonition (warning) comes with a promise of salvation not only to the one that would do it but also to those that would hear.
Jesus, while performing his earthly ministry, had a doctine. Bible records that those who heard him "...were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power." (Luke 4:32)
The disciples of Jesus after receiving the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts chapter 2 "...continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." (Acts 2:42)
These all let us know that doctrine is a very important matter to study. Bible also commands us to "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)
Before going any further let us establish a definition of "doctrine".
Doctrine literally means "teaching". Biblical doctrine has a Word of God as a foundation. It is a collection of truths based upon the written Word of God given to men.
Our sincere prayer for God to help you study the following doctrinal subjects presented here and be established in the truth. As Jesus said: "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32)
